About Me

My photo
I'm a retired primary school teacher, who started paper crafting in 2008, when I had a fancy to make my own Christmas cards. Since then, I have tried all sorts of techniques and styles - and I kind of like them all. I have been lucky enough to be on blog teams and large design teams and to do a bit of freelance demonstrating - and I love the challenge of working with different products. My crafting style is very varied - from junk journaling and art journaling, bookbinding and journal making, to quilting and patchwork - and of course I still make cards. This variety keeps me interested - and my crafty stash growing!! I'm always seeking inspiration for new projects.

Crafter's Companion Big Score

The lovely Fiona is on Create and Craft today with the Big Score - if you've missed the 8am show - she's back on at 1pm.

This is one of the projects I made for the show using the instructions from the Big Score CD. It's called the 'Magnificent Mailing Box' - and is sooooo easy to make!
I decide to use the Opulence A3 card, cut down to 8 1/4" wide as per the instructions. For the decoration on the top, I did a bit of faux iris folding. I used a square template, and instead of folding paper, I used strips of the card, edged with Faded Jeans DI.
I used Die'sire Essentials Circles and Flowers for All Occasions for decoration, along with some ribbons and pearls!!

Make sure you tune in for the shows today!!

Crafty Cardmakers Challenge #135 - Spring

Afternoon - and it's time for another challenge from Crafty Cardmakers & More. This fortnight Marlene has chosen the theme 'Spring', so your project could include new life (baby - animal or human), Spring flowers, soft Spring colours etc.

For me personally, I love having a bunch of daffodils in the house when Spring arrives. They are so bright and cheery, and say that warmer weather is on its way!! So, I chose to use a digi called 'Narcissus' from Just Inklined.
I printed the image onto Neenah Solar White card, and coloured it with my Spectrum Noir pens: LY1, 2, 3; GB3. 4. 5; DG 2, 3, 4, CG4; IG1, 2, 4, Blender.
I used green and yellow card for the matting and layering. The large yellow layer is embossed with Do Crafts A4 Butterfly Pattern embossing folder. The edges of all the yellow layers are inked with Scattered Straw DI, and for the green I have used Mowed Lawn.

The paper blooms are from Dovecraft, and the sentiment is from Crafter's Companion Sentimentals Nature stamp set. The centres of the flowers have a little glitter glue added.

Happy Anniversary!!

The middle of March is when things start to ramp up for me crafting wise. Family and friends birthdays and anniversaries start to come thick and fast. Today's card is a wedding anniversary card for my brother-in-law and sister-in-law.  I hope they had a fabulous day!!
The topper came from the Kanban 'Love and Marriage' Kit - this particular one is called 'Anniversary Wishes. The heart paper is also from Kanban, and I teamed it up with matt pink card and pearl cream card.

A little ribbon, some paper flowers and pearls finished it off.

Back soon,

Happy Mother's Day

Just a quick post today. I am sharing with you the card I made for my Mum for Mother's Day.
I used one of the decoupage images from the Camden Town Female CD - I just changed the sentiment to read 'Happy Mother's Day'. It was mounted onto some Papermill Teal card. I used more of the card to matt and layer the background papers, and finished it off with ribbon and pearls.

Like I said - a quick one today!!

Getting organised!

Morning!! I am in the process of re-organising my craft desk. It's a work in progress - very slow progress!! But I'm determined to get it done - even if it means working on it around other things.

If you're anything like me, when I'm crafting I like certain things to be close at hand so I don't need to go looking!! But I also am not keen on a huge mess - so like it all to be fairly organised. And while I already have some great little baskets on my desk, the stuff in them needs a bit of sorting.

So, I've gathered together all sorts of bits that hopefully with be transformed over time into lovely storage. I'm not going for anything complicated - just straightforward, usable - but looking good!
I decided to start with something to keep my wire cutters and pliers in. I don't use them a huge amount, but I do like to have them to hand just in case.
I started with a crisp tube, and cut it down to the height needed. I didn't worry too much about how even it was as this would be covered up later.
I then sanded it and painted it with Gesso. I also did the inside to give it a 'tooth' for sticking things to.
Two pieces of green card were stuck around the top of the container - one inside and one outside. This will give a neat edge to the top.
And because there was a gap between the two pieces of card right at the top, I filled it with PVA glue.
I wrapped more of the card around the bottom, and a piece of paper (Do Crafts Butterfly Collection download) around the middle - finishing off with a piece of ribbon.
Like I said - nothing fancy - but it looks good amongst the other things on my desk - and does the job!!

Take care!!

Crafty Cardmakers & More - #134 - For a Special Woman

Afternoon!! It's time for a new challenge over at Crafty Cardmakers and More. This fortnight we are looking for your cards and gifts 'For a Special Woman'. So, this could be Mother's Day - but doesn't have to be.

My Mum has had a really tough start to the year, losing my Dad a few weeks ago. So, I have made a cupcake box ready for some special treats on Mother's Day.
I used the Six Cupcake Gable End Box template from Crafter's Companion - along with A3 double sided Indulgence card. I teamed this up with some Fresh Pink Centura Pearl.

The flowers are a combination of paper roses from my stash, and some made with CC Die'sire Quilling dies. The ones I used are: small and large Fringed Flower, Itsy Bitsy Bloom, Blossom and Stamen.  In addition, I used Die'sire Essentials Flowers for all Occasions to fill in some of the gaps - and the centres were also put into the quilled flowers. The leaves are Leaf 2.

I made a little matching tag, and used Die'sire 1" Alphabet dies to cut the letters. A few pearls, and some ribbon tied in a bow around the handles, completed the box.

Now all I need to do is make the cakes!!

Make sure you pop on over to Crafty Cardmakers and More for more inspiration - and the link for entering your creation!

The Mirror Crack'd - Challenge 7 - Wings

Afternoon! Am here today with this month's mixed media challenge from The Mirror Crack'd. We would like to see anything (other than cards) that you can create with wings. For my project I have gone for a butterfly theme, using a sentiment stamp from Crafter's Companion Sentimentals Nature set - 'There is nothing in a caterpillar that tells you it's going to be a butterfly'.

I've been wanting to have a go at the 'caught in crystal' technique for a while, and finally got round to it. It was a bit of an experiment, as I wanted to play with some of my Pebeo Moon and Prisme paints. Well, to be honest it all went a bit wrong as I hadn't realised that the floor polish would repel the paints (or the other way around). So I didn't get the effect I wanted at all.
At this point I stopped taking photos of what I was doing, and just started throwing all sorts on. This first one has the following on it - although I'm really not sure what it is that actually shows up: Pebeo Prisme - Eggshell White and Emerald; Pebeo Moon - Gold and Apricot; That Special Touch Mica Powders - Golden Malachite, Golden Pear, Pale Gold, Enchanted Gold; Stampendous Frantage - Sage and Taupe.

Because the paint didn't spread, and the mica powders soaked up some of the floor polish, when I put the tissue on, it all seemed a bit, well, bitty. So I whipped out my Aqua Tints, and dropped some over the back of the tissue with a pipette. I used Bright and Beautiful 37, along with Pretty Pastels 39 and 25.
Despite the fact that it wasn't quite what I had intended, I was quite happy with the effect. But I decided to have another go - this time using the Aqua Tints from the start. I was a bit heavy handed with the orange!! And then I decided to add glitter to this one - and had a bit of an accident - so dropped on far more than anticipated of the orange glitter - and not so much of the green glitter. Never mind! It turned out OK.
The next step was to create a base for my project. I bought some scalloped square clock bases ages ago - not to make clocks with - but because they were really cheap and I knew they would come in handy!!
Using Cut & Dry foam, I dabbed on Pebeo Deco Matt Acrylic Paint in a combination of Tangerine, Greengold, Forest Green, Anqtique Green and White.
I used sections of the 'caught in crystal' acetate to create the background and mats, with frames cut from Crafter's Companion Matt Black card. And I edged the scalloped square with my True Black Spectrum Noir pen.
The butterflies are cut with Crafter's Companion Die'sire Butterflies, and Essentials Butterflies. The leaves are cut with Leaf 2, and embossed with the new CC Textures Leaf Vein 8x8 Embossing Folder. I rubbed some Creative Expressions Golden Green Gilding Wax over these - and alo arund the black frames. I finished off with some glittery flowers and pearls from my stash.

Be sure to pop on over to The Mirror Crack'd for lots more inspiration from the team!!
