About Me

My photo
I'm a retired primary school teacher, who started paper crafting in 2008, when I had a fancy to make my own Christmas cards. Since then, I have tried all sorts of techniques and styles - and I kind of like them all. I have been lucky enough to be on blog teams and large design teams and to do a bit of freelance demonstrating - and I love the challenge of working with different products. My crafting style is very varied - from junk journaling and art journaling, bookbinding and journal making, to quilting and patchwork - and of course I still make cards. This variety keeps me interested - and my crafty stash growing!! I'm always seeking inspiration for new projects.

A bit of upcycling

The school where I teach was getting rid of this old book box/storage unit, and I just couldn't let it go in the skip. So I brought it home, and transformed it into a herb planter!

I started by sanding it all down, then I turned it over, and drilled holes into each section for drainage.

I then cut weed suppressant material to line each section - checking that it actually fit - and put it aside for later.
I then painted it with Cuprinol Garden Shades paint - Sage, Seagrass and Purple Pansy - to match my potting table.

When it was dry, I attached the liner with a staple gun, making sure to push holes through for drainage. I tidied the top edge with some black webbing, before planting my sage, mint, thyme and oregano.

So much better than ending up on the skip!!
